05.02.2014 - CONSTRUCTION: STUDENT FILMING PERMISSON

MY EMAIL TO GEOFF DYER

Dear Geoff Dyer,
I am emailing you to enquire about student filming permission at Paddington Station on 9th February 2014. I am currently studying Media at GCSE level at Claremont Fan Court School in Esher. As part of our GCSE project/full mark we have to complete a 3 minute film on a subject of our choice - ours being 1950s cold war. I am in a group with 3 boys (George Flack, Thomas Stevens and Charlie Myers) and we all agree that Paddington Station is a popular chosen location for a total of 1.5 minutes of our filming.
Last week I rang your telephone as well as mobile phone number when you were off work until 3rd February 2014. I also rang today (5th February 2014) and Caroline (South West Trains) informed me that emailing you would be convenient as you are currently doing night shifts.
We intend to start filming early in the morning of the 9th February at around 12.00-12.30.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing your response.
Regards,
Kate Bradford

GEOFF'S RESPONSE

Hi Kate
The best thing to do is go to http://filming.networkrail.co.uk/home.aspx which will give you all the information you need. The 9th won't be possible I'm afraid as we need 7 clear days to process the application and for the station to sign-off the RAMS. You can apply on-line which is the easiest way.
Regards
Geoff

MY RESPONSE TO GEOFF'S RESPONSE

Hi Geoff,

Thank you for your response! I have informed my filming group about your feedback; would 16th February 2014 (Sunday) be possible for the application to be processed and for the station to sign-off the RAMS?

Thank you again for your help!

Regards,

Kate

GEOFF'S RESPONSE

Hi Kate
That's possible in theory, I would go on-line and draft the application / RAMS so Alex can have a look early next week.
Regards
Geoff

MY RESPONSE TO GEOFF'S RESPONSE

Hi Geoff,

Thank you for help! I will definitely consider applying on-line: time isn't really on our side unfortunately and we think we might film somewhere closer to school. Thank you again and I will be sure to contact you in the future if I need anymore help regarding student filming.

Regards,
Kate

GEOFF'S RESPONSE

OK, sounds good. It would be worth looking at doing something as part of your studies, filming near the operational railway requires a lot of planning, so once you've gone through our process anything will seem easy in comparison!
