Today
we worked on the precise wording for our film title. We wanted the title to:
·
Establish the film’s genre (spy-mystery thriller)
·
Convey the key
ideas (woman with defective character
and unanswered secret)
·
Intrigue the audience through enigma (by suggesting an unsettled and
vague problem – carrying a mysterious package)
·
Tap into intertextuality
through shared knowledge or cultural codes (using terms or images that the
audience is already acquainted with)
Our
Short List: Beyond Belief, Cold , Behind the Wall, Behind the Barrel, The Berlin Brief, Operation
Meisterhaus
After
much deliberation, we finally settled on the name In Cold Blood because it has so many connotations that work with our plot, in particular, the reference to the Cold War and to ruthless violence. The Cold War was a war between the Americans and the Russians against communism. There was hardly any physical fighting but threats of nuclear disaster
were a constant source of fear for the public. In our film, we
have many clear connotations of the title such as threat on the girl when she
is shot and the era that it is set.
