This is my first blog post. I have just completed my first lesson of Media Studies.
In the lesson I looked at advertising methods when selling a well known product. For example I looked at Duffy advertising Diet Coke. I looked at the 'Making of Duffy's Diet Coke Advert'.

Diet Coke is the original brands version of Coca Cola for women. The brands target audience is the 'busy woman who is juggling work commitments, daily life and being fashionable'. The company wanted to have a representative on the advert who was real and true! In the advert the singer Duffy portrays that every busy woman needs to have time for herself or 'sneak out from daily life and rebel'. The Creative Director of Mother says that the advert demonstrates how Diet Coke is 'that moment' when you can reconnect with yourself and have 'me' time.
I also looked at other Coca Cola adverts. For example James Bond's version for Coke Zero. Coke Zero is the male version of Diet Coke. The advert portrays James Bond's extravagant life style of drinking, women and fast Aston Martins. The advert relates to the James Bond films, for example the bubbles at the begining, James being visible through the eye of a pistol and the double zeros representing the film and the drink at the end. At one point in the advert, the Coke Zero bottle represents James himself when the bottle is thrown onto the driving seat of the Aston Martin and drives off quickly, chasing after an enemy. It shows that if you drink Coke Zero you can have the extravagant lifestyle and the enjoyment of the drink at the same time.
I also looked at how women were being represented in early Listerine, Persil and Pears Soaps adverts.
