The meaning of 'Archetype'

An archetype is a template of a persona used in fiction. The templates are often characters which the reader is familiar with and can also identify easily. This is why it is so popular as well as appealing to use an archetype in a film as the term is globally known.
Definition: An original model or type after which other similar things are patterned or based on; a prototype: "'Frankenstein' . . . 'Dracula' . . . 'Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde' . . . the archetypes that have influenced all subsequent horror stories" (New York Times).
