Ninth Lesson of Media Studies - Controlled Assessment Research

In the lesson, as well as researching about different ages of fragrance, as a class we looked at two different perfume adverts.

2.       Hugo Boss Autumn 2006 feat. Jonathan Rhys Meyers (moving picture) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqZW3GX5dFU

Information about the two perfume adverts:

Mavis Vivaudou 1920s (paper) –

·         Sophisticated woman who is possibly French

·         Elegant and graceful

·         Product of the time in History (1920s) – Art Deco

·         Use of middle eastern/oriental scenes – outside there are mountains and oriental plants such as trees and oriental people in the left hand side of the picture

·         Woman who is represented is the target audience for the fragrance (product) being advertising

·         The woman is surrounded by beautiful and classic furniture such as a beautiful chandelier and elongated lamp stand on the far right hand side

·         Shows if you wear the perfume you can be sexy, act in a classic manner and be something out of the ordinary (not very many people would wear a perfume advertising an oriental theme)
Hugo Boss Autumn 2006 feat. Jonathan Rhys Meyers (moving picture) –

·         Like a 1960s comic book – shows woman in 1960s shift dress

·         Fun and young

·         Shows the exciting/enjoyable side of life

·         Shows that if you wear the perfume you will be fun and flirty

·         Pop up life

·         The scenes popping up in the advert such as a park or a busy city portray a vibrant lifestyle

·         Lively and versatile – all compact within one bottle

·         Shows life can be up to you, the world is your oyster!
Final selected adverts that I am choosing for my controlled assessment:

Vivaudou La Boheme 1920s

1950s - Chanel (paper) - http://www.adclassix.com/a3/59chanelperfume.htm

Daphne Groenevels in Dior Addict Advert 2012

2012 – Dior Addict (moving picture) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhBFFrygh4o

How I think the women are portrayed or represented in the fragrances adverts:

1920s – Vivaudou La Boheme (paper)
·         Attractive and sexy
·         Glamorous and classy woman
·         The woman is acting seductive
·         She wears a vibrant, colourful dress
·         Wanting to look attractive the opposite gender
·         Elegant
1950s - Chanel (paper)
·         Attractive to the opposite gender
·         Classy woman – her hair, skin (make up), the way she dresses etc
·         Gentile woman
·         Attractive – eye contact to the opposite gender
·         Wearing a pretty dress
·         Graceful
·         Elegant and Seductive (showing shoulder)
2012 – Dior Addict (moving picture)
·         Fun
·         Young
·         Flirty
·         Transformation from girl to woman
·         Attractive if you wear the perfume
·         Vibrant
